About Jamie

From the time I was little, I was always the kid insisting on holding everyone’s babies. I loved to help out in any way I could and always dreamed of being a mom. To my dismay, I was told I would have trouble conceiving. My then boyfriend, now husband, has two beautiful children that I love incredibly deeply, but I always wanted to experience pregnancy and birth. Imagine my surprise to find out several months later that I was 14 weeks pregnant! Just days before I had gotten engaged and adopted our rescue pup, Sailor. I had absolutely no idea! Lucky for us, my sweet girl was healthy and growing well. My pregnancy was nothing too crazy, I was very swollen and uncomfortable, but then again who isn’t!? My due date came and went, and after a ton of curb walking, raspberry leaf tea, and yoga ball bouncing, I was sent in for an induction. Long story short, my low intervention, unmedicated birth dreams turned into an unplanned cesarean. The recovery was brutal, and I was not prepared. I was determined to breastfeed, and after days of bleeding, cracked nipples, and a million youtube videos, I finally started to figure things out and began the process of healing both physically and mentally from my birth.

I had never heard of a postpartum doula at the time and the idea of a lactation consultant intimidated me. Why? I have no idea. I just thought that you were supposed to push forward and figure it out yourself.

When my daughter was 11 months, I became pregnant again. Then COVID happened and shook the world. We lived in a bubble until her birth in October 2020. It was at this time I started hearing about postpartum doulas. During our late night nursing sessions, I began researching about how to become a postpartum doula. I would keep notes in my phones for ideas of social media posts, potential business names, and ways I could help people. I thought about it often but did not think I could make it a reality. Almost a year later, I spoke with my husband and explained that birth work was my calling and that we needed to find a way to make it happen. Another six months of preparation, and I quit my job in the legal field and jumped full force into what is now, The Doting Doula. My whole life I could never figure out what I wanted to be “when I grew up”.

Well, I finally found it.

My dream is to help support you. I am here to ease your troubles, help with the load you are carrying, or even just to provide an judgement free shoulder to cry on. As a team, we will work together to come up with the best plan for you and your family!

“Jamie answered all my breastfeeding questions and was instrumental in teaching me how to get a good latch! Without her assistance my breastfeeding journey would have ended as soon as we got home from the hospital. Jamie is so helpful, caring, knowledgeable, and very encouraging! Thank you for all your support!”
